To Love and Be Loved

She's still the same...hasn't changed at all...
It's been so long, it's harder to recall...
The racing heart, the tingling in the spine...
The girlish laugh, the seeming loss of time...

What is it she's in pursuit of?
All that she ever really wanted, was to love and be loved

Not asking much, not too much at all...
A loyal heart, two loving arms in which to fall...
She got engaged, she had a man, she had a life...
She raised two kids, been a mom and wife...

What is it she's in pursuit of?
All that she ever really wanted, was to love and be loved

Bridge

And this is only one alone...
Of many all alone...
Too many all alone...
Too many all alone...
The need for love won't dissipate...
A yearning heart has no expiration date...

The earth spins 'round, follows the course prescribed...
She makes her stop, rereads the words inscribed...
She bites her lip, and gradually recedes...
A woman's face...and yet a girl with needs...

What is it we're in pursuit of?
All that we ever really want, is just to love and be loved...
